Reader’s Question:

I was required to have SR-22 insurance Joliet, Illinois on my vehicle, if I gets a motorcycle, do I have to get a SR-22 insurance for that vehicle as well?

Bob

Joliet, IL

Liability insurance in Illinois is required for all motor vehicles that must display license plates and are being driven, including motorcycles. Financial Responsibility Insurance (SR-22) certificate is the mechanism in Illinois to monitor the insurance of problem motorist.

The SR-22 is a certificate or form of insurance filed by the home office of an insurance carrier directly to the IL Secretary of State.

So if would appear if you have an Operators-Owners or Owner’s Certificate type of SR-22 insurance, you would just need to add your motorcycle onto is as one of your owned vehicles. To find out for sure if you have to add the motorcycle to the SR-22 insurance or can get a separate policy for the motorcycle, contact the Illinois Secretary of State Driver’s Services.
